The Journey HomeA guide for parents of premature babies
Every year, eight percent of all babies in the Netherlands are born prematurely, that is before the 37th week of pregnancy. There is a lot involved in a preterm birth and it is important for the parents to know what is going on. However, there usually is not enough time to explain everything. This book tries to fill that gap. The authors explain specialist medical procedures that preemies go through in easy terms, and offer support. As a parent, you often feel powerless and all you can do is hope that your baby will continue to grow and get stronger outside the womb. The Journey Home helps you to be prepared for all that lies ahead during the first four years of your baby's life. Compiled by paediatrician-neonatologist Angelique Hoffmann-Haringsma and medical social worker Liduine Schönau. The book also includes seven personal stories from parents and their premature babies.
